Real relationships; being human sized; identity in Christ; in the world but not of it; part of the body of Christ.
John 13:35 NLT
“Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
We are not an ‘island unto ourselves’. God did not create us that way. Being human and interacting, sometimes conflicting, with others can be confronting at times and often it would be easier to run from the pain of facing real issues. Being part of a family and part of the body of Christ – our church family – means we can build healthy and real relationships in a Christ centred environment. It’s an opportunity, and also God’s plan, for those rough edges to be chipped away. As painful as it can be, His plan is for us to grow and produce fruit in our lives as we work on those hidden areas in our life we would rather continue to hide.
Our identity is in Christ and, despite all our differences, what we have in common is the truth of His word, and our love for one another. When we walk in love, speak in love, forgive with love and act in love - our world and our relationships will be strengthened. Even the smallest act of love and kindness has great impacts on people’s lives. There’s nothing like an unexpected kind word, hug, text or gift that can brighten up your day. When we walk in the opposite spirit to our feelings, we prove to the world what God’s love really is.
And when we remember that God sees everything happening in our life, we can trust that things will come right in the appointed time. Ultimately, what’s most important is that God is glorified and people are drawn to Him – not to ourselves.
